About the Artist
I was a career educator, now retired, who taught furniture design and construction, boatbuilding, architecture and sculpture. Very early in my career I developed a love of wood carving and was able to apply my experience and understanding of design and creation to this artistic expression.
I am inspired by nature and wildlife and, having recently moved to the woods, find the environment a continuous source of inspiration.
Currently my primary offering is an interpretation of various types of birds. My focus is on form and unique features specific to birds found in Ohio. I use only locally found woods, for the most part in their natural state, and using existing markings on the wood to inspire the shape and type of bird. No color is added to the woods which allows its grain to provide color and texture.
